Hyperbrand: Opepen

Oct 22, 2024

Opepen is a cultural canvas, the result of a hyperculture around VV, PFPs, and digital natives. I wanted to experiment with combining an internet-native constraint and established, well-known brands, so I created a piece every day for 100 days using Opepen as a canvas.

I find brand collaborations fascinating because they enable:

  • Cross-pollination between two audiences

  • Ability to test new markets

  • More constraints = more creativity If Opepen and Nike created a shoe, there is a deepened relationship with Opepen consumers and Nike consumers.

The name of this collection is called Hyperbrand: Opepen. The goal is to demonstrate Opepen as a hyperbrand. Hyperbrand = crypto reputation that can proliferate for free and forever, without maintenance, interruption or intermediaries. Other hyperbrands include Zora and Nouns.

A brand is a memetic container for commerce. A hyperbrand is a memetic container for culture. Therefore, hyperbrand x brand = culture x commerce. Hyperbrands like Opepen, Zora, and Nouns have the unique ability to remix culture and commerce.

As trends continue to explore the intersection of digital culture and traditional commerce, hyperbrands like Opepen represent a new paradigm for creative expression and value creation. By removing traditional barriers and enabling free-flowing cultural remixing, these platforms aren't just changing how we think about brands—they're fundamentally reshaping how culture propagates in the digital age.

The 100-day experiment with Opepen demonstrates that when we combine the limitless potential of hyperbrands with the established power of traditional brands, we create something entirely new: a bridge between the physical and digital, the traditional and the experimental, the commercial and the cultural.
